Privacy Policy — Daily Kural (Android)

Daily Kural ("the app") presents one chapter of the Thirukural each day in Tamil, English and Polish. This policy explains how the Android version of the app handles your information.

The short version: the app collects no personal information and sends nothing off your device.

Information we collect

None. Daily Kural has no user accounts and does not collect, transmit, or share any personal information. The app contains no analytics, no advertising and no third-party trackers. It is not granted the Android internet permission at all, so it cannot make network requests even in principle. All 1330 kurals and all three translations are bundled inside the app, so it works with no internet connection.

Information stored on your device

The app saves the following locally on your device only, using Android's standard app storage, so it can remember your settings between launches:

• Kurals you mark as favourites.
• Your reading streak and the date you last opened the app.
• Your chosen text size.
• Whether the daily reminder is on, and the time you set for it.
• The language chosen for each home-screen widget.

This information never leaves your phone. It is not uploaded to any server, and the developer cannot see it.

Permissions

The app declares these Android permissions:

• Notifications — only to show the daily reminder, if you switch it on. The reminder is generated on your device from the text already inside the app.
• Run at startup — only to re-schedule that reminder after your phone restarts, so it is not silently lost.

Three further permissions (wake lock, network state and foreground service) are declared automatically by the Android widget library the app is built with. The app itself starts no background service and makes no network calls.

Sharing a kural renders an image on your device and hands it to Android's own share sheet, where you choose the destination app; Daily Kural neither sees nor records that choice.

Data retention and deletion

Because all data is stored locally, uninstalling the app removes all of its data from your device. You can also clear it at any time from Android Settings → Apps → Daily Kural → Storage → Clear data. There is nothing stored on any server for us to delete.

Children's privacy

The app is suitable for general audiences and collects no personal information from anyone, including children.

Texts

The Tamil text is the Thirukural of Thiruvalluvar, which is in the public domain. The English and Polish translations were prepared for this edition.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the "Last updated" date above will be revised.
